Linospora vulgaris
Anamorph: not known.
Teleomorph: stromata 400-650 µm diam., forming a black spot on the upper surface of the leaf, ± lenticular, brown, containing a single ascoma. Ascomata perithecia, 190-230 µm diam., 60-100 µm high; neck papilliform or short, not exceeding the level of the substrate by more than 100 µm, emerging on either side of the host leaf. Interascal tissue absent. Asci produced horizontally within the perithecium, cylindrical with a rounded apex, tapering at the base, apically somewhat thick-walled, with a single discernable wall, with a I- refractive apical ring, 8-spored. Ascospores lying in parallel within the ascus, 95-110 x ca 1.5 µm, filiform, tapering towards the ends, hyaline, smooth, thin-walled, 6- to 8-septate, not constricted at the septa, often with short disc-shaped appendages at one or both ends.
Not formally assessed. There are only a few vouchered reports of this species from GB&I, but it is inconspicuous and almost certainly under-recorded. It would almost certainly be considered as Data Deficient.
Similar to Linospora capreae on the same host genus but with shorter ascomatal necks and ascospores.
Reported from dead, overwintered leaves of Salix repens and an unidentified Salix species.
Confirmed GB&I reports are from Devon and Hampshire.
Unknown; probably initially endophytic with stromata developing on moribund leaves.
