Family: MagnaporthaceaeGenus: Buergenerula
SUMMARY
Mycelium: superficial mycelium present as a network of rather irregular, frequently branched dark brown thick-walled hyphae. Hyphopodia present, irregular in shape with the outline ranging from smooth to distinctly scalloped, somewhat domed, dark brown, thick-walled. Penetration peg ca 2 µm diam., very prominent.
Anamorph: not known.
Teleomorph: stromata absent. Ascomata perithecia, 350-450 µm diam., ± globose, black, deeply immersed and long-necked, the neck sometimes eccentric, to ca 1 mm in length, cylindrical or slightly tapering. Peridium rather thin, composed of and outer layers of dark fairly thin-walled ± angular to rounded cells to 22 µm diam., the inner layers with slightly larger, paler and thinner-walled cells, covered with a thin mat of dark brown hyphae 2-3 µm diam. Interascal tissue composed of unbranched very thin-walled gradually tapering paraphyses 4-5 µm diam. over most of their length. Asci 80-95 x 8-10 µm, cylindrical, rather short-stalked, the apex obtuse to rounded, quite thick-walled but apparently not fissitunicate, with a small refractive apical ring, 8-spored. Ascospores arranged biseriately to fasciculately, (30-) 32-43 x 4-4.5 µm, narrowly clavate to broadly cylindrical, the broadest part slightly above the centre point, the apex obtuse to rounded and the base distinctly attenuated, hyaline, thin-walled, mostly 3- to 5-septate, smooth, without a gelatinous sheath or appendages.
