SUMMARY
Anamorph: not known.
Teleomorph: stromata absent. Ascomata apothecia, (0.5-) 1-4 (-10) mm diam., scattered or gregarious, sessile, initially cupulate and then expanded and discoid. Hymenium ± white to pale grey, drying to yellowish grey, concolorous with the external tissues, surrounded by conspicuous setose hairs, the margin lined with thick-walled hyphae 40-100 (-180) x 10-35 µm, the apical cells clavate. Setae (250-) 600-1000 (-1300) x 12-20 µm, to 26 (-33) µm diam. Near the base, many-septate, the base itself usually narrowed with a branched or blunt end, almost hyaline to dark brown. Ectal excipulum 40-100 µm thick, composed of thin-walled angular to globose cells 10-30 µm diam. Secondary hairs covering the ectal excipulum, 75-310 x 10-18 µm, the base swollen and 30-40 µm diam., pale to dark brown. Medulla composed of densely interwoven hyphae 2-3 µm diam. Interascal tissue of unbranched paraphyses 1-2 (-2.5) µm diam., the apex sometimes slightly swollen, to ca 3 µm diam. Asci (175-) 200-275 (-295) x (10.5-) 13-20 (-21.5) µm, cylindrical, fairly thick-walled but not fissitunicate, short-stalked, the apex rounded, operculate, 8-spored. Ascospores (17-) 18-22 (-23) x (9-) I0-12 (-13) µm, ellipsoidal to fusiform-ellipsoidal, aseptate, hyaline, smooth, at least sometimes with a perispore that loosens when heated, without oil droplets, without a gelatinous sheath or appendages.
