Thallus coarsely granular, thick, ± continuous, grey-green. Soredia forming over the whole thallus surface, grey-green, coarsely granular, often predominating. Anamorph: conidiomata pycnidia. Conidia 12-22 × 0.5-1 μm, filiform, often curved. Teleomorph: ascomata apothecia, 0.4-1 (-1.5) mm diam., frequent, sessile, slightly narrowed at the base, often at or beneath the level of the soredia. Thalline exciple persistent, crenulate to granular, sorediate or irregularly flexuose. Discs pale green-grey to grey-brown, sometimes tinged pink, flat or concave, rarely slightly convex. Epithecium colourless to pale yellow-brown, generally with granules dissolving in K. Hymenium (45-) 55-70 (-85) μm tall. Interascal tissue of paraphyses 1.5-2.5 μm diam., branched and anastomosed, most frequently branched towards the apices, the apices to 3 μm diam., not or slightly swollen. Asci 40-50 × 12-18 μm, broadly clavate, apical dome K/I+ blue with an K/I– internal cone, 8-spored. Ascospores 10-14 (-16) × 4-6 (-7) μm, broadly ellipsoidal, sometimes ovoid, thick-walled, aseptate, hyaline, smooth, without an epispore, gelatinous sheath or appendages. Chemistry: thallus C–, K+ weakly yellow, Pd+ orange to deep red, UV+ dull orange (± usnic and fumarprotocetraric acids).
