Endococcus sp. P3083
General description:
Equivalent to the undescribed species of Endococcus on Porpidia referred to by Sérusiaux et al. (1999), p. 25. Distinguished from the other taxa on Porpidia by the relatively long, but narrow ascospores, 10.5-12.5 x 5-6.5 µm in size, which are slightly verruculose when immature (young, hyaline or pale brown ascospores have to be examined at a high magnification). When mature, they are smooth, dark brown and thin-walled (wall 0.5-0.7 µm). The perithecia are 170-240 µm diam., half or completely immersed.
Associations:
On thalli of Porpidia macrocarpa (also reported from P. platycarpoides).
Distribution:
Only recorded once from GBI, in VC1 W Cornwall.
