Massarina tiliae
General description:
Excluded species. The following data are taken from Saccardo's description, which is somewhat inadequate: ascomata globose to depressed globose, subepidermal, with the ostiole just piercing the surface. Asci subcylindrical. Ascospores 40-60 x 10 µm, narrowly ellipsoidal, hyaline, 3-septate, smooth, guttulate, with a gelatinous layer.
The species was originally reported on Tilia from Forres, VC95 Moray. The type is lost from Kew, and no other GB&I specimen has been seen. Aptroot (1998) considered that the species might belong to Massaria, although the hyaline ascospores do not support this conjecture.
