Verrucaria ochrostoma, occupying much of the upper part of the image with V. nigrescens below. The V. ochrostoma has been preferentially browsed by molluscs removing the cortex and revealing the green algal layer below. Such colonies are common in the Home Counties but difficult to identify without considerable experience of this species.
