SUMMARY
Anamorph: not known.
Teleomorph: ascostromata perithecial, 50-80 (-100) µm diam., superficial, scattered or aggregated in small groups, globose, brown to dark brown or almost black, ostiolate. Peridium composed of 3-4 layers of translucent pale brown polyhedral cells 4-8 µm diam., the upper part bearing stout rigid erect dark brown appendages 25-45 µm tall, smooth-walled, 4-7 µm diam. for most of their length but becoming abruptly expanded apically to form a lobulate flat-topped head 10-15 µm diam., the lower part bearing flexuous irregular brown hyphae to ca 500 µm long, mainly 2-3 µm diam. which anchor the ascostromata to the substrate. Interascal tissue composed of branched and anastomosing pseudoparaphyses 1-1.5 µm diam., immersed in a gelatinous matrix but separating in potassium hydroxide solution. Asci (38-) 40-48 x 4-5 (-7) µm, elongate-clavate to subcylindrical, short-stalked, fissitunicate, with an ocular chamber, 8-spored. Ascospores arranged biseriately, 7-10 x 2-2.5 (-3) µm, ellipsoidal, 1-septate, slightly constricted at the septum, often somewhat fusiform at the apices, cells rather unequal in size, guttulate, usually hyaline but sometimes becoming pale brownish, without an epispore, gelatinous sheath or appendages.
