SUMMARY
Anamorph: not known.
Teleomorph: stromata absent. Ascomata perithecia, ± superficial, scattered, 200-250 µm diam., subglobose to globose below, dark brown to black, peridium composed of 2-3 layers of dark brown polyhedral cells mainly 8-14 µm diam. except near the neck where they become elongated; lateral brown to subhyaline hairs arising from the peridium either singly or fused in groups of 2-3 (-10), mainly 100-250 x 2.5-4 µm, smooth-walled; neck arising from the apex of the perithecium, composed of fused terminal hairs each 3.5-5 µm diam, fused portion 280-400 µm tall, 30-50 µm diam., the hairs becoming ± separated and expanded above to form a swollen region 150-250 µm diam. which supports the mass of ascospores, the hairs mainly brown but some appearing almost hyaline towards their apices, smooth-walled. Interascal tissue absent. Asci apparently arising in a basal fascicle within the perithecial cavity, 35-45 x 16-20 µm, clavate to ± globose, short-stalked, thin-walled, deliquescing as the ascospores mature, 8-spored. Ascospores irregularly arranged, brown, aseptate, quadrangular and (5.5-) 6-8.5 (-9) µm diam in surface view, elliptical and 6-7 x 5-5.5 pm in lateral view, two sides somewhat concave and the surface with a broad and usually Z-shaped deeply pigmented band in surface view, otherwise smooth-walled.
