SUMMARY
Thallus effuse, irregularly granular, granules scattered or, more often, contiguous and fused, dirty grey-green, dark green or black-green. The thallus sometimes erodes to expose the leprose medulla and these patches resemble soralia. Photobiont cells 7-14(-20) µm diam.
Anamorph: not known.
Teleomorph: ascomata apothecial. Apothecia occasional, mostly 0.2-0.3 mm diam., convex, dark brown-black, often shiny; epithecium pale brown to deep fuscous brown (K–, N–), occasionally with a green-blue tinge (K–, N+ purple), rarely entirely deep blue-green. Ascospores 20-40 × 4-5 µm, mostly 7-septate, elongate-fusiform, tapered at one end, straight or curved.
Chemistry: No lichen products detected by TLC.
