SUMMARY
Thallus usually pendent, coarsely tufted, rarely monophyllous, grey-green or olive to green-black; branches (3-) 6-20 (-30) cm long, 0.8-2 (-5) cm wide, conspicuously flattened and leaf-like, simple or sometimes sparingly branched, often twisted, tapering towards base and apices, flat or commonly channelled, often with an uneven, reticulately wrinkled surface, sometimes fenestrate or longitudinally lacerate. Lateral branches usually arising near the distinct holdfast. Medulla solid, subcortex cartilaginous. Pseudocyphellae frequent, inconspicuous, pale, rounded or oval. Soredia and isidia absent. Photobiont trebouxioid.
Anamorph: conidiomata pycnidia, with cylindrical conidia 4-5 x ca 1 µm in size.
Teleomorph: ascomata apothecia, usually frequent, marginal or laminal, short-stalked. Disc 3-5 (-10) mm diam, initially cupulate, becoming flat or weakly convex, brownish or flesh-coloured, pruinose or epruinose. Exciple smooth or wrinkled, pale brown beneath. Ascospores 10-17 × 4-7 μm, kidney-shaped, 1-septate.
