Family: PorinaceaeGenus: Porina
SUMMARY
Thallus film-like, inconspicuous. Photobiont Trentepohlia.
Anamorph: conidiomata somewhat smaller and more flattened than the ascomata, pale yellowish. Conidiogenous cells in a palisade lining the inner wall, 3-4 x 2-2.5 µm, pyriform to doliiform, proliferating percurrently. Conidia rather variable in size and shape, 6-8.5 (-10) x 2-2.5 (-3) µm, mostly cylindric-ovoid to ellipsoidal and sometimes asymmetrical, hyaline, aseptate, thin- and smooth-walled.
Teleomorph: ascomata perithecia, with a distinct involucrellum, 150-220 µm diam., ± hemispherical, occasionally somewhat pointed, the involucrellum extending in a narrow band around the perithecium; yellowish orange when immature, becoming violet-black when mature, the ostiole periphysate. Interascal tissue of narrow thin-walled rarely branched paraphyses, free at the tips, ca 1.5 µm diam. Asci 48-58 x 8-9.5 µm, cylindrical to lanceolate, the apex obtuse to truncate, short-stalked, thick-walled and probably fissitunicate but without an ocular chamber or apical structures, not blueing in iodine, 8-spored. Ascospores 13.5-14.5 x 3-3.5 µm, cylindric-ellipsoidal, the ends obtuse, 3-septate, hardly constricted at the septa, hyaline, smooth, fairly thin-walled, without an epispore or gelatinous sheath.
