SUMMARY
Thallus thin, superficial, dull brown to dark green-brown or blackish, continuous or cracked.
Anamorph: Conidiomata pycnidia. Conidia 2.5-3.7 × 1-1.2 μm, cylindric-ellipsoidal.
Teleomorph: ascomata perithecia, 150-220 (-300) µm diam., strongly domed to ± hemispherical, shining black, the lower ca 25% immersed in the thallus. Involucrellum thick, purplish brown, dulling in K, or K+ grey-brown. Peridium dark brown, thin-walled, separable from the involucrellum, the ascomatal cavity oblate to almost globose. Interascal tissue of paraphyses ca 1.5 µm diam. with free apices, aseptate or rarely branched, periphyses not seen. Hymenial gel I–, K/I– . Asci 65-72 x 8-10 µm, cylindric-clavate, the wall thin throughout, functionally unitunicate (dehiscence by rupture of the apex, with no extruded inner layers), not staining in iodine, the apex rounded to truncate with an inconspicuous refractive ring which stains with Congo Red, 8-spored. Ascospores (12.5-)14.5-18(-32) × 3.5-4.5(-6) μm, fusiform-ellipsoidal, hyaline, 3-septate, thin-walled, without a perispore, gelatinous sheath or appendages.
