Vegetative tissues inconspicuous, or bark darkened around the clypeus due to abundant brown subcuticular hyphae, non-lichenized.
Anamorph: not known.
Teleomorph: ascomata perithecia, 150-180 (-230) µm diam., ± circular, scattered or clustered, younger colonies tending to have less strongly domed ascomata. Involucrellum brown in water and K. Interascal tissue of thin-walled ± moniliform frequently branched and anastomosed pseudoparaphyses 1.5-2.5 µm diam. with cells 3-8 µm long. Asci 42-57 (-70) × 18-20 µm, obpyriform. Ascospores 17-19.5 (-22) × 4-5 µm, cylindrical to narrowly cylindric-clavate, hyaline, 1-septate (sometimes yellowish brown and 3-septate when old), only slightly constricted at the septum, cells often biguttulate but without a median constriction; gelatinous sheath usually distinct, ca 1 µm thick.
