Mycelium superficial, abundant, composed of pale yellow to almost colourless branched septate hyphae 1.5-2 µm diam., with numerous slight swellings from which the aseptate subcuticular haustoria arise.
Anamorph: not known.
Teleomorph: ascomata thyriothecia, to 180 µm diam., amphigenous, circular, scattered, occasionally fused. Upper wall composed of radiating rows of irregularly quadrilateral cells 3-5 x 4-6 µm in size, pale brown with somewhat darker marginal cells which are divided longitudinally into rounded processes to form a fringe. There is no darkening around the central ostiole which is 6-8 µm diam. Interascal tissue not seen. Asci 32-36 x 7-9 µm, obclavate to ellipsoidal, fissitunicate, 8-spored. Ascospores 12.5-14.5 x 2.5-3.5 pm, ellipsoidal to narrowly obovoid, hyaline, divided by a single septum into a shorter, more tapering lower cell, and a longer upper cell, which is often guttulate, bearing medianly two tufts of 3-8 cilia connected by a short dark-staining thread.
