SUMMARY
Anamorph: not known.
Teleomorph: stromata absent. Ascomata perithecia, 325–400 mm diam., 500–525 mm high, ovoid to obpyriform, not collapsing when dry, dark brown to black, superficial, with a papulose, sparsely setose surface, densely clustered on sparse or abundant subicular hyphae. Setae 85+ µm long, brown, lighter than the ascoma, thick-walled with a narrow lumen, apex acute. Ascomatal wall cells with Munk pores. Asci 130–140 x 10–13 µm, cylindrical to ventricose, short-stipitate, with a narrow, shallow, refractive
apical ring, 8-spored. Ascospores bi- or triseriately arranged, 28–40 x 4–5.5 µm (to 52 x 6 µm in GB&I material), cylindrical, curved or distinctly bent in the middle, both ends obtuse, hyaline to pale brown, mostly one-celled but sometimes become three-septate when old, the wall roughened.
