SUMMARY
Lesions circular. Leaf lesions to 2.5 mm diam, amphigenous, pale, necrotic, margin dark brown, surrounded by chlorotic light green halo. Stem and fruit lesions to 5.5 mm diam, raised, cream brown, centre puckered or sunken, margin dark.
Anamorph: Sphaceloma ampelinum de Bary (1874). Conidiomata to 60 µm diam, amphigenous, superficial or subepidermal on leaves, acervular, subcuticular, partly erumpent, composed of angular hyaline to brown cells, formed amidst lesions. Conidiophores infrequently formed, 1-3 septate, unbranched, hyaline to pale brown, formed from the upper cells of the conidiomata. Conidiogenous cells 3.5-6 x 3-5.5 µm, terminal, integrated, ampulliform, enteroblastic, polyphialidic with 1-3 loci, indeterminate, hyaline to pale brown. Conidia 4-7.5 x 2-3.5 µm, ellipsoidal, simple, hyaline, smooth.
Teleomorph: stromata multilocular, globose to cushion-shaped, superficial to immersed, brownish, composed of angular cells, scattered, often formed amidst lesions of the host. Ascomatal locules each containing only one ascus and scattered irregularly at several levels within the stroma. Interascal tissue absent. Asci 15-28 x 12-25 µm, globose to ovoid or ellipsoidal, sessile, thick-walled, 8-spored. Ascospores 15-16 x 4-8 µm, 3-septate, narrowly ellipsoidal to ovoid, hyaline to pale yellow, sometimes with longitudinal septa, often slightly constricted at the primary septum.
