SUMMARY
Description contributed by Graham Kinsey, CABI, based on Wehmeyer (1933).
Anamorph: Phomopsis syngenesia (Brunaud) Höhn. (1917). Conidiomata 200-350 µm diam. Conidiogenous cells 10-15 x 3 µm. Alpha-conidia 6-11 x 2-3.5 µm.
Teleomorph: stromata erumpent as ± pustulate, circular to fusoid discs, 0.5-1 mm diam and composed of a compact cluster of ostioles, entostromatic areas pustulate-effuse, with the dorsal zone dipping to the wood between the pustules or with the pustulate areas ± confluent. Ascomata 250-480 x 240-320 µm, clustered within the pustulate stromatic areas, ostioles stout-cylindrical. Asci 47-54 x 6-8 µm, clavate. Ascospores 12-13.5 x 2-3.5(-4) µm, oblong-ellipsoidal to fusiform-ellipsoidal, constricted at the septum, rarely with faint appendages which are quickly evanescent.
Characterised by the pustulate entostroma, the compact disc-like fascicle of ostioles and the lack of a ventral zone.
