Description contributed by Graham Kinsey, CABI, based on Wehmeyer (1933).
Anamorph: not known.
Teleomorph: stromata surface of bark heavily blackened or only slightly so, ventral zone definite in wood or only lateral where an entire twig is entostromatic, pustulate swollen areas on the surface caused by underlying perithecia where clustered with collectively erumpent ostioles. Ascomata thickly and irregularly scattered or often crowded in large clusters, ostioles often elongate-sinuous and adpressed. Ascospores 11-13 x 2.5-3.5 µm.
