Family: HyaloscyphaceaeGenus: Dematioscypha
SUMMARY
Anamorph: Haplographium delicatum. Colonies effuse, dark brown to black, stromata, setae and hyphopodia absent. Conidiophores with hyaline to cinnamon-coloured glistening slimy heads visible with a dissecting microscope; to 250 µm long and 4-7 µm diam., broader at the base (to 8-10 µm diam.) and also at the apex to a lesser extent, straight or flexuous, dark brown and thick-walled except at the apex. Apex ± inflated, almost hyaline, with several short primary branches that usually form penicillate secondary branches. Conidiogenous cells terminal, cylindrical, proliferating sympodially. Conidia 2.5-4 x 1-2 µm, cylindrical to cylindric-ellipsoidal, hyaline, aseptate, thin- and smooth-walled.
Teleomorph: ascomata apothecia, gregarious , cupulate on a short stipe, later becoming sessile on a narrowing base, to 300 µm diam. when dried , disc and flanks black to blackish brown when dried, margin pure white. Ectal excipulum of prismatic cells 6-10 (-12) x 4-6 µm in size, walls clearly brown to blackish, of highly unequal thickness, the pigment stable in all mountants. Inner excipulum of similar but narrower prismatic cells. Hairs to 80 µm long , 3-4 µm broad at the base, hyaline, typically aseptate in their protruding part, often tapering to a fine point less than 1 µm broad, lacking resinous exudates, not reacting in iodine; walls thin at base, ± clearly thickened apically, often with only a narrow lumen visible in the upper part, smooth. Interascal tissue of filiform paraphyses 1-1.5 µm diam., not protruding above the asci, lacking pigments. Asci developing from croziers, 30-50 x 4-6 µm, cylindrical, with a minute pore not blueing in iodine, 8-spored. Ascospores 5-8 (-10) x 1.5-2 µm, ellipsoidal to fusiform-ellipsoidal, straight to slightly curved, remaining nonseptate in asci, quite frequently 1-septate after being discharged, hyaline, thin-walled.
