SUMMARY
Anamorph: not known.
Teleomorph: ascomata apothecia sessile, solitary to gregarious, discoid to slightly convex, white, faintly ochraceous to bright yellow or orange, often appearing roughened by protruding asci at maturity. Peridium of angular to globose cells, in a basal cushion or extending to the ascus apices, marginal cells globose to extremely elongate, dextrinoid and cyanophilous in some species. Interascal tissue of filiform, septate, often curved paraphyses, sometimes clavate at the apices, simple or branched, with or without oil guttules and carotenoid pigments. Asci extremely variable in number, operculate, non-amyloid, staining uniformly in Congo red, 8- or multispored. Ascospores uni- or biseriate or irregularly crowded, ellipsoidal, smooth, thin-walled, in some species with yellowish contents, most at maturity with a conspicuous de Bary bubble, without a gelatinous sheath or perispore.
