Coleophoma empetri
Nomenclature
-
Family: DermateaceaeGenus: Coleophoma
Species:
Coleophoma empetri
SUMMARY
Similar to Coleophoma cylindrospora, but with shorter conidia (12.5-18 x 2-3 µm versus 16.5-24 x 2.5-3 µm fide Sutton 1980).
Crous & Groenewald (2016) placed the two taxa in synonymy based on molecular data, but collections on Empetrum appear consistently to have shorter conidia and are kept separate pending more detailed research. Neither species appears strongly host-specific (material illustrated here comes from Diapensia lapponica, which occupies a similar habitat to Empetrum), but more sequencing is needed to elucidate their relationships and to clarify host specificity.
