Nomenclature

Family: ChaetosphaeriaceaeGenus: Ascocodinaea
SUMMARY
Anamorph: Dictyochaeta sp. Conidiophores to 160 µm in length and 4-5.5 µm diam., in dense swarms on the substrate surface, dark brown, thick-walled, hardly tapering, obscurely septate. Conidiogenous cells single, terminal, hyaline to pale brown, ± cylindrical, conidia formed percurrently (presumably) from a distinct cupulate fertile locus. Conidia not seen.
Teleomorph: stromata absent. Ascomata perithecia, 120-200 µm diam, globose, with a minutely papillate ostiole, collapsing when dry, shining black, thin-walled, not setose, ± superficial or with the lower third immersed in plant tissue. Peridium composed of an outer layer of thick-walled dark brown opaque epidermoid cells and in anner layer of pale brown tissue. Interascal tissue composed of copious unbranched paraphyses ca 1.5 µm diam. Asci 70-90 x 4.5-5.5 µm, cylindrical, with a rather long tapering stalk, thin-walled and not fissitunicate, the apex rounded to truncate with an inconspicuous apical ring, not blueing in iodine, 8-spored. Ascospores arranged obliquely uniseriately, 11-13 x 4-5 µm, ellipsoidal to fusiform-ellipsoidal, 3-septate, not constricted at the septa, versicolored, the two middle cells golden-brown to olivaceous and somewhat thicker-walled than the hyaline to pale brown outer cells, without germ pores, without an epispore, gelatinous sheath or appendages.
