SUMMARY
Anamorph: not known.
Teleomorph: ascomata perithecia, small and inconspicuous, closely grouped together, immersed but usually raising the epidermis which is pierced by a small conical papilla. Clypeus hardly present, but the epidermis may appear blackened around the papilla, especially when the host tissue is old and decayed. Ascomata 100-220 µm diam. and 125-210 µm high. Peridium 12-15 µm thick, with an outer layer of dark thick-walled cells, and an inner layer of hyaline compressed cells. Interascal tissue of paraphyses ca 2 µm diam., mostly breaking down before the asci are mature. Asci 65-95 X 6-8 µm, cylindrical, the apex rounded with an apical ring ca 1 µm thick and 3 µm diam. that blues in iodine, 8-spored. Ascospores 8-12 x 4-5 µm, ovoid to fusiform with tapered ends, slightly inequilateral, aseptate, mid to dark brown, with a central guttule that may partially obscure the faint germ slit which forms either a single diagonal or crossed diagonals, without an epispore, gelatinous sheath or appendages.
