Akanthomyces sp. P4547
Nomenclature
-
Family: CordycipitaceaeGenus: Akanthomyces
SUMMARY
Mycelium present as a thin hyaline mat on the host fungus surface.
Conidiomata absent. Conidiophores to ca 4 µm diam. near the base, ± erect, hyaline, smooth, fairly thick-walled. Conidiogenous cells in verticillate whorls of 4-6, 12.5-19 µm long and 2.5-3 µm near the base, lanceolate to acicular, constricted at the base and tapering gradually from around one quarter of the distance from the base to the apex, the apex acuminate, possibly proliferating percurrently but periclinal thickening and collarette not visible. Conidia 3.5-5.5 x 1.7-2.5 µm, ellipsoidal, abscission scar not visible, aseptate, hyaline, thin-walled, without a sheath or appendages.
Teleomorph not known.
Possibly a Cladobotryum-like anamorph of a Hypomyces species rather than an Akanthomyces species, but molecular data are needed to make a robust identification.
