Aurantiolachnea solsequia
Anamorph: not known.
Teleomorph: stromata absent. Ascomata apothecia, 6–13 (–25) mm diam. and 3–8 mm high, sessile, deeply cupulate, hymenium yellow-orange, sometimes with a faint brownish hue; external surface ochraceous yellow to orange, densely covered with brown short hairs. Margin densely hairy with dark brown hairs. Subhymenium and medullary exciple not distinguished, of intertwined hyaline hyphae. Outer exciple of textura yellow-brown angular cells 15–27 μm diam. Excipular hairs superficial, straight, 120–500 × 11–18 μm, brown, thick-walled (2–3 μm thick), regularly septate with the septa distinctly narrower than the outer wall, the apex acute, with a simple enlarged or bulbous base to 25 μm diam. Marginal hairs similar but longer, to 1.5 mm in length. Interascal tissue of filiform, septate, unbranched paraphyses 2–2.5 µm diam., slightly enlarged at the apex to ca 4–5 μm diam., containing orange granular carotenoid pigment. Asci cylindrical, 200–250 × 9–11 μm, quite long-stalked, arising from croziers, operculate, 8-spored. Ascospores uniseriately arranged, 15.5–17 (–18.5) × 8–8.5 (–9.5) µm, ellipsoidal, hyaline, rather thick-walled when fully mature, mostly biguttulate but often accompanied by smaller droplets, smooth, without a gelatinous sheath.
Description adapted in part from Van Vooren et al. (2021).
GBI material appears to have a somewhat different LSU sequence to that of the type, but matches well in morphological terms.
Known from a single site in VC24 Buckinghamshire, with a possible historical record from VC7 N Wiltshire.
On woody debris and soil with old ash and hazl stumps.
