Laetinaevia epithallina
Anamorph: not known.
Teleomorph: ascomata apothecia, 200-250 µm diam., superficial, discoid, flat, pale pink to pale orange, ± translucent, sessile to shortly stipitate, the margin concolorous or slightly paler than the disc (possibly due to the translucence of the apothecium), becoming excluded with age; excipule composed of elongated hyphae, the ends of some projecting slightly in young apothecia to give a slightly downy appearance; stipe 50-100 µm thick, of irregularly shaped pseudoparenchymatous cells. Hymenium ca 75 µm tall, with a hardly differentiated hypothecium, without a distinct epithecial layer. Paraphyses 1.5-2 µm diam., numerous, persistent, filiform, scarcely swollen at the apices, straight, unbranched. Asci 47-55 x 8-10 (-12) µm, clavate, thin-walled, not fissitunicate, slightly thickened at the apex with a poorly defined ring, T-shaped in section, that blues in iodine, 8-spored. Ascospores arranged biseriately, (8-) 9.5-11 (-12) x 3.5-4.5 (-5) µm, elongate-ellipsoid to clavate, sometimes somewhat curved, hyaline, aseptate, thin- and smooth-walled.
On dead and moribund thalli of Peltigera spp.; confirmed records from P. collina, P. didactyla, P. hymenina and P. rufescens.
