Parasitic on bleached areas of Xanthoria parietina.
Anamorph: Pycnidia closely associated with apothecia. Walls dark and contiguous with walls of apothecia. Conidiogenous cells elongate-ampulliform. Conidia hyaline, cylindrical, straight, single-celled, 6-7.5 x 1 µm.
Teleomorph: Ascomata apothecial immersed but later superficial, often joined into contiguous groups, exciple black, continuing under apothecium, K+ brown-red in section. Paraphyses branched, thickened and darkened at tips. Asci broadly clavate, without amyloid ring, 8-spored. Ascospores hyaline becoming brown, 3-septate, ellipsoid, not-constricted, 12-17 x 4-6(-8) µm with a thin perispore.
This is the only fungus growing on Xanthoria parietina with multiple apothecia within one structure.
