Porpidia superba f. sorediata
General description:
Porpidia superba forma sorediata has a thinner, continuous, cream-white thallus compared with the type variety, with irregular soredia that are concolorous or somewhat darker than the thallus, arising from cracks in the thallus. Apothecia are often present.
Conservation status:
Assessed by Woods & Coppins (2012) as of Least Concern, but listed as Nationally Rare. It is probably under-recorded.
Distribution:
North Wales, Cumbria, southern Scotland and the Scottish Highlands; less frequent than the typical form. BLS map here.
Habitat:
On vertical flushed, acidic or weakly basic rock.
