Sporormiella minutisperma
Anamorph: not known.
Teleomorph: ascostromata perithecia, 180-300 µm diam., immersed with just the necks protruding, the necks relatively long, black and shiny with an ostiole. Peridium membranous, greyish, slightly translucent, composed of brown thin-walled angular cells 7-13 x 5-8 µm in size. Older perithecia have so many ejected spores clustered around them that the necks are not visible. Interascal tissue of pseudoparaphyses, anastomosing in the upper part. Asci (75-) 87–95 × 6–7 μm, narrowly clavate with a long tapering stipe and usually with a large bifurcate foot, thick-walled and fissitunicate, the apex obtuse, 8-spored. Ascospores arranged biseriately above and often uniseriate below, 16-17.5 x 2.5-3 µm, olivaceous brown (black in mass), 3-septate, mostly with the end cells longer than the central ones. Central cells ca 3.75 x 3 µm, end cells ca 5 x 2.5 µm in size, with inconspicuous longitudinal germ slits, with a narrow gelatinous sheath, often ejected in clusters that may remain intact.
Description derived from Doveri & Coué (2008) and from a post on Ascofrance by Vivien Hodge (see here).
Characterized primarily by its very narrow ascospores.
In GB&I, reported only on sheep dung; found elsewhere on dung of other herbivores.
Currently reported from a single collection from VC13 West Sussex.
