Coprotus leucopocillum
Anamorph: not known.
Teleomorph: ascomata apothecia, 300-500 µm diam., scattered to gregarious, initially ± globose and becoming pulvinate to almost discoid, white to pale yellow, ± smooth, with an indistinct margin. Peridium composed of angular to globose cells, at the base 5-17 µm diam. and almost isodiametric, at the margin cells usually elongated, measuring 12-15 x 5-8 µm, sometimes slightly dextrinoid. Interascal tissue of rarely branched paraphyses 1.5-2.5 µm diam., septate, hyaline, without granules or guttules, frequently enlarged to 3-4.5 µm at the apices and slightly curved. Asci 80-110 x 15-22 µm [95-135 x 27-34 µm; Doveri 2004], broadly cylindric to cylindric-clavate, rounded to slightly truncate above, with a short slightly forked stalk, 8-spored. Ascospores arranged biseriately, 13-16.5 x 7-9.5 µm [the British collection has smaller ascospores 12-13.5 x 7.5-8 µm in size], broadly ellipsoidal, hyaline to slightly yellowish, smooth, each with a single de Bary bubble when mature, without a gelatinous sheath or perispore.
Not formally assessed. Only one GB&I report has been made and the identity of this collection is doubtful, the ascospores being slightly smaller than in published descriptions. Further work is needed before a conservation assessment of any sort can be carried out.
Close to Coprotus disculus but with somewhat larger asci and ascospores.
Recorded in GB&I on rabbit dung, recorded from other herbivore droppings elsewhere in Europe.
In GB&I, only recorded from VC71 Isle of Man.
