Leptosphaeria gloeospora  

Excuded species. This was originally described from dead stems of Artemisia absinthium from Fleetwood, Lancashire. However, the type seems to contain two fungi, neither of which are concordant with the original description. One has muriform ascospores that are very variable in form, some of which have attenuated bases. It is in poor condition but seems to be similar or conspecific with Cilioplea coronata. The other is a Pyrenochaeta-like fungus similar to the assumed anamorph of Keissleriella cladophila.
Leptosphaeria gloeospora was redescribed and illustrated by Holm (1953) under the name Trichometasphaeria gloeospora, depicting a fungus broadly similar to that of the original description, though with ascospores that have more septa. Bose (1961) described the same fungus as Keissleriella gloeospora. There are no modern GB&I collections of this species; the only specimen listed in FRDBI as L. gloeospora belongs to Keissleriella culmifida.
