Description:

Fuscidea cyathoides, section of thallus mounted in alcoholic solution of Pd. This is a very sensitive method for detecting Pd+ substances and also has the advantage of locating where such substances are located within the thickness of the thallus. In this case the whole thickness of the thallus appears to contain a good concentration of fumarprotocetraric acid (Pd+ rust-red), perhaps slightly more concentrated in the upper thallus.
