Punctelia subrudecta, underside of mature thallus showing the rather pale brown pigmentation. P. borreri, by contrast, is black beneath. Some specimens of P. subrudecta are darker beneath than in this image and this has caused misidentifications. The bright white patches are where the thallus has been broken revealing the white medulla.
