Description: 

Weddellomyces epicallopisma, a lichenicolous fungus infecting Variospora (Caloplaca) flavescens. Considerable damage is caused to the host. The black perithecia of W. epicallopisma partially erupt through the cortex of the host causing rather characteristic radial cracks in the lobes. Photograph taken at Therfield church, Hertfordshire.
