Description:

Verrucaria squamulosa, growing on horizontal stonework forming the base to a large tomb, Sawston churchyard, Cambridgeshire. This individual has squamules which are not contiguous and the perithecia are seen to be characteristically arising in between the squamules (rather than immersed in the thallus as in look-alike species).
