Description:

Opegrapha vermicellifera, photobiont cells and hyphae. The algal partner is Trentepohlia which is usually filamentous in the free-living state. In most Trentepohlia-containing crustose lichens, as here in O. vermicellifera, the chains of Trentepohlia are disrupted into just two or three cells, or often into single cells. When fresh, the presence of orange, carotenoid containing inclusions is very conspicuous.
