Colonies: effuse, forming extensive patches, dark brown to black, powdery; mycelium partly superficial, composed of dark brown to almost hyaline septate branched hyphae mostly 2-4 µm diam. Setae and appressoria absent. Anamorph: Conidiophores to to 160 µm long and 4-7 µm diam., simple or branched, straight or flexuous, arising in clusters from knots of superficial hyphae, often markedly constricted at the septa, thick-walled, brown to dark brown, ± smooth-walled. Conidiogenous cells subcylindrical to doliiform, apparently not proliferating. Conidia produced in long dry simple or branched chains which fragment readily, 4-10 x 3.5-5 µm, ellipsoidal, aseptate, pale brown to brown, smooth. Teleomorph: not known.
