Colonies: effuse, powdery, grey when immature, dark brown or black when mature. Mycelium primarily immersed.
Anamorph: Conidiophores formed from a thin superficial vegetative layer of irregular thick-walled hyphae, 15-35 x 2.5-4.5 µm, usually composed of two to four thick-walled dark brown cells that are slightly inflated between the septa. Conidiogenous cells not clearly distinct from the conidiophores, cylindrical to doliiform, apparently not proliferating. Conidia 9-12 x 4-6 µm, ellipsoidal to cylindrical, mid to dark brown, thick-walled, smooth, rarely septate, formed in long, usually unbranched chains.
