Colonies effuse, dark brown to black, on podetia and on both sides of squamules, densely caespitose, usually effuse, the thallus not discolored. Anamorph: stromata absent, but with solitary swollen, brown hyphal cells aggregated below the conidiophores. Conidiophores 11–70 × 3–6 μm, differentiated from the vegetative hyphae, not synnematous, solitary or in small aggregations, erect, straight to slightly flexuous, mostly unbranched, ± cylindrical, narrowed towards the apex, (0–) 1–8-septate, slightly constricted at the septa, brown to dark brown, paler towards the apex, the wall smooth to irregularly verruculose, sometimes proliferating with sheath-like wall remnants visible as an irregular fringe below septa. Conidiogenous cells not differentiated, proliferating percurrently with coarse, often flaring annellations, visible. Conidia 4–13 (–15) × 2–5 (–5.5) μm, mostly in unbranched chains, easily disintegrating into ± solitary conidia, occasionally two conidia permanently adhering, straight, rarely slightly curved, ellipsoidal, subcylindrical, doliiform or lemon-shaped, 0 (–1)-septate, pale brown, smooth to irregularly verruculose, wall to 0.5 μm thick, the apex rounded to attenuated in primary conidia, truncate in secondary ones, the base truncate, sometimes narrowed. Teleomorph: not known.
