Anamorph: not known. Teleomorph: stromata absent or poorly developed, with a grey to black clypeus composed of intertwined dark hyphae, sometimes with two or three ascomata formed under a common clypeus. Ascomata perithecia, 250-300 µm diam., usually scattered, immersed, the neck small and ± conical, hardly penetrating the substratum surface, lined with delicate, hyaline periphyses. Peridium narrow, composed of several layers of laterally compressed, angular reddish brown cells. Interascal tissue sparse, composed of very thin-walled unbranched paraphyses to 5 µm diam. that usually deliquesce at maturity of the asci. Asci 80-95 x 5-6 µm, cylindrical, quite short-stalked, thin-walled and not fissitunicate, the apex obtuse with a minute apical ring that does not blue in iodine, 8-spored. Ascospores arranged uniseriately, 10.5-13 x 3-4.5 (-6) µm, fusiform to fusiform-ellipsoidal, 3-septate, not constricted at the septa, hyaline, thin-walled, smooth, surrounded by a narrow gelatinous sheath.
