SUMMARY
Anamorph: not known.
Teleomorph: ascomata apothecia, 200–800 µm diam, black or with a dark brown margin; disc concave; margin prominent, persistent, smooth. Exciple 60–75 µm wide (lateral to hymenium); upper part, and especially outer part, dark brown, K--; lower part dilute brownish or ± hyaline, but often with a thin, dark brown outer edge; cells to 12 µm diam. Hymenium 70–95 mm tall, hyaline to dilute red-brown; epihymenium red-brown, K+ dulling [never purplish]; hypothecium red-brown, K+ dulling or K+ dull olivaceous. Interascal tissue of simple paraphyses, mostly slender, 1–1.5 µm diam in mid-hymenium, the apices only slightly widening to ca 3 mm at the apex, each with a distinct, dark brown apical cap. Occasional thicker filaments present, 2–3 µm diam, gradually widening to 4 µm towards the apex.Asci ca 70 x12–14 µm, 8-spored. Ascospores (14–)17–21(–24) x (4.8–)6–7(–9.5) µm, narrowly ellipsoidal, brown, smooth-walled but wall of old spores ± finely warted, (1–)3-septate.
