Teleomorph: Ascostromata perithecia, (100-)220-330 (-440) µm diam., ± globose, depressed or ovoid, often remaining partially or almost completely immersed, the ostiolar region black under low magnification. Peridium 20-30 µm thick, soft, composed of several layers of thin-walled angular cells, the surface roughened by protruding cells and sometimes with smooth vinaceous brown pigment encrusted on the outer surface. Interascal tissue composed of thin-walled pseudoparaphyses 1.5-2 µm diam., sometimes breaking down at maturity. Asci 60-85 (-100) x (10-) 12-15 (-18) µm , short-stalked, clavate, thick-walled and fissitunicate, the apex rounded, with an inconspicuous ocular chamber, not blueing in iodine, 8-spored.
