SUMMARY
Spermogonia mostly hypogenous, scattered on the edges of colonies, yellowish to dark brown. Spermatia 4-5.5 x 3-3.5 µm, ellipsoidal to obovoid, hyaline, aseptate, smooth- and thin-walled, produced amongst paraphyses with attenuated tips to 90 µm in length and 5 µm diam.
Aecia hypogenous, rather irregular in shape, often elongate and/or curved, to 2-3 x ca 1 mm in size, cup-shaped and sometimes surrounded by flaps of dead host epidermal tissue, initially forming hyaline echinulate thick-walled ovoid to ellipsoidal aeciospores 38-40 x 22-24 µm in size and without germ pores; later-formed spores 34-40 x 23-25 µm in size, pale honey coloured, ellipsoidal to obovoid, minutely echinulate, thick-walled (2-3 µm thick) with usually 3 ± equatorial germ pores.
Uredinia similar to aecia, but not producing hyaline spores and not accompanied by spermogonia.
Telia developing from aecia. Teliospores 37-41 x 21-23 µm, ellipsoidal to clavate, hardly constricted at the ± median septum, dark brown, ornamented with longitudinal rows of minute shallow pits, the pedicel hyaline, to 10 µm in length.
