SUMMARY
Anamorph: aff. Shearia sp. Conidiomata pycnidial, grouped, immersed, to 800 µm diam. and 550 µm high. Conidiogenous cells apparently annelidic, short, lining the conidiomatal wall. Conidia 40-50 x 15-20 µm, brown, obovoid, with several transverse and one or two longitudinal septa, the surface smooth, gel coating indistinct [data from Barr 1982].
Teleomorph: ascomata 385-825 µm diam. and 275-550 µm high, oblate, immersed beneath the periderm and not or hardly visible from the surface, scattered or in small clusters, surrounded by abundant brown hyphae. Peridium 50-70 µm thick, to 100 µm thick at the base, black. Interascal tissue composed of copious branched and anastomosed pseudoparaphyses Asci 185-220 x 35-38 µm, clavate, with a long tapering stipe when immature, thick-walled and fissitunicate with a distinct ocular chamber, the apex rounded, not blueing in iodine, 8-spored. Ascospores 46-51 (-57) x 15.5-16.5 µm, obovoid-fusiform, straight or inaequilateral, mid brown when fully mature, strongly constricted at the submedian primary septum, with 2-3 (-5) secondary septa and 1-2 oblique or longitudinal septa in the upper part and 1-2 transverse and usually one longitudinal septum in the lower part, smooth or foveolate, with a conspicuous gelatinous sheath to ca 3 µm thick.
Description adapted in part from Barr (1982).
