SUMMARY
Anamorph: not known.
Teleomorph: ascomata perithecia, 200-450 µm diam., erumpent in clusters from dead stems and leaves, globose to subglobose, black. Neck 150-300 (-600) x 50-70 µm, often lateral, sometimes almost horizontal, but in some populations ± central and vertical. Peridium thin, 15-30 µm thick, composed of 5-6 layers of cells. Interascal tissue not reported. Asci 32-38 x 5.5-6.5 µm, evanescent at the base, with a refractive apical ring 1-1.5 µm diam., not staining in iodine, 8-spored. Ascospores 8-10 x 2-3 µm, narrowly ellipsoidal, the ends rounded, hardly constricted at the median to slightly submedian septum, hyaline, each cell with two large lipid bodies, with a filiform appendage at both ends to ca 4 µm in length.
