SUMMARY
Thallus crustose, areolate, brownish black with a black prothallus and hypothallus, sometimes with a faint rusty or ochraceous pruina. Areoles 0.3-1 mm diam., angular or rounded, rough, flat to convex. Outer cells of cortex greenish, N+ red; medulla brownish, J+ blue-violet. Photobiont chlorococcoid with cells 7-12(-15) μm diam.
Anamorph: conidiomata pycnidia, immersed. Conidiogenous cells integrated in chains, cylindrical, borne on tips or sides of the conidiophores. Conidia 3-4 × ca 1 μm, bacilliform, simple, colourless.
Teleomorph: ascomata apothecia, 0.4-1 mm diam., at first immersed and later becoming ± sessile. Thalline exciple absent. Margin (true exciple) at first shallow but later excluded and inapparent. Epithecium olive-green, K+ green intensifying, N+ red, sometimes, often with additional brownish, K+ purplish pigment. Hymenium 80-110 μm tall, colourless or pale brownish, K+ purplish and sometimes J+ pale blue. Hypothecium dark brown, K+ purplish tinge. Interascal tissue of simple or sparingly branched and anastomosed paraphyses 1.5-2 μm diam., the apices widening slightly to 3-4 μm, without pigmented caps. Asci clavate, 8-spored; apical dome narrow, not or weakly J+ blue but ascus apex surmounted with a strongly K/J+ blue, rather diffuse cap. Ascospores 12-18 × 6.5-10 μm, ellipsoidal, thick-walled, aseptate or with an indistinct septum, dark olive-brown.
