Anamorph: not known in nature, but a microconidial morph may form in culture with hyaline aseptate conidia 4-7 x 1-1.5 µm in size (Monod 1983).
Teleomorph: stromata absent. Ascomata 120-300 µm diam., perithecial, separate or in groups of 2-4, the neck central or eccentric, 350-750 x 25-50 µm and straight or curved, the body immersed within the substratum. Peridium (8-)12-20 µm thick, composed of 2-3 layers of dark thick-walled angular cells to 16 µm diam. Interascal tissue absent. Asci 21-32 x 5-7 µm, cylindric-clavate, short-stalked, thin-walled, evanescent at the base, with a conspicuous refractive barrel-shaped J- apical ring ca 2.5 µm diam. and 2 µm tall, 8-spored. Ascospores 9-13.5 x 1-1.5(-2) µm, fusiform, straight or slightly curved, septum median but sometimes very inconspicuous or absent, with variable appendages, short and blunt or setose and 3-4 µm in length, each cell containing 2 guttules, lying in one or two fascicles within the ascus.
