Thallus reduced to minute grey-green squamules.
Anamorph: not known.
Teleomorph: ascomata perithecia, 100-130 µm diam., ± globose, ostiolate, hardly papillate, black, thin-walled, sometimes with broad thin-walled hypha-like hairs developing from the upper part of the ascoma. Peridium 18-25 µm thick, with an outer layer of thick-walled dark brown elongate cells with patches of heavily melanized tissue separated by narrow bands of pale cells. Interascal tissue not clearly defined, but with very well-developed branched paraphysoids extending down from the ostiolar region. Asci 57-70 x (16-) 19-23 µm, clavate to saccate, ± sessile, the apex somewhat attenuated and rounded, fissitunicate with rostrate dehiscence, with a small apical ring, 8-spored. Ascospores 27-34.5 (-39.5) x 5.5-7 µm, cylindric--ellipsoidal to fusiform, the apices acute, often curved, hyaline, (1–)3- to 5-septate, slightly constricted at the median septum, thin-walled, smooth, without a gelatinous sheath or appendages.
