SUMMARY
Fungus forming galls on the host lichen; galls ± globose, at first dark brown to black, brown when mature.
Anamorph: not known.
Teleomorph: ascomata perithecia, immersed in the galls of the host thallus, 110-150 μm diam. and 180-350 μm high. Peridium in section brown, K+ greenish brown, 7-20 μm thick, in the basal part up to 40 μm thick, composed of angular cells. Hymenial gel not staining in iodine. Interascal tissue composed of thin-walled ± gradually tapering paraphyses 3-4 µm diam., evanescent at maturity. Periphyses lining the upper part of the ascoma, to 30 µm long and 2-3 µm diam., sparsely septate, mostly unbranched, the upper part sometimes pale brown. Asci 65-85 x 13-17 µm, cylindrical to elongate-clavate, very thin-walled, not fissitunicate, the base tapering and the apex obtuse to rounded, without visible apical structures, not staining in iodine, 8-spored. Ascospores uniseriate or partially biseriate, 11.5-12.5 (-13) x (8-) 8.5-9 µm, (10-11 x 7.5-8 µm in lactic acid), broadly ellipsoidal, slightly constricted at the ± median septum, smooth, thin-walled, without a perispore. Ascospores discharged from mature asci may measure up to 16 x 9.5 µm in size.
